4 weeks old!

Go Twins!

Emmett is 4 weeks old today!

Really, mom? Matching outfits?

He is finally able to wear 0-3 month clothes (although they're still a little roomy - he fits better in the newborn clothes). So Eric decided to dress him in his first Twins gear today (maybe to match me in my new Twins hat? Yeah, I've been wearing a lot of hats and pony tails lately due to having less time for such things as showers...).

It's hard to believe he is already 4 weeks old. I can't believe I've been home for that long already, let alone taken care of a newborn for that long.

Emmett continues to grow more and more every day. And he continues to amaze us with his ability to burp (He takes after his daddy -- ha ha! If Eric reads this, he will argue that Emmett actually takes after me...).

What else?...

Well, we have been taking walks by strapping Emmett into the Baby Bjorn or the Moby wrap and taking Indy along with her leash as well. That is, we have been trying to do that when the weather isn't ridiculously hot (high 90s and 100s is a bit much - so thankful that today is in the 80s!). Emmett seems to like that - he sleeps through all walks.

Tummy time with Indy

Indy still likes him, even though we won't let her steal Emmett's toys. Emmett is kind enough to allow Indy to participate in "tummy time" on his mat. What a nice little brother!

Swingin' and snoozin'

Emmett has also had some other "firsts" during the past 4 weeks, including:

• first walk around Como Lake with Angie and Graham (who is only 6 weeks older than Emmett - future friends!)
• first trip to a restaurant (Snuffy's malt shop)
• first ride in his swing (as you can see, it put him to sleep - after he was amazed by the sounds coming from it and the rocking motion)
• first trip to Target with mommy and daddy
• first time at Highland Fest (that's a whole other story...)
• first doctor appointment
• lots of first visits with family and friends
• first trip to Grandma Pat's house
• first trip to Aunt Kristin's house (the house where Eric grew up)
• soon-to-be first trip to Grandma Anne and Grandpa Jack's for Jack's birthday BBQ tonight (Happy birthday, Grandpa Jack!)

Like my faux-hawk?

Emmett continues to be a pretty chill dude. He wants to eat about every 3 hours (sometimes 2-2.5 hours during the day, but more like 3-4 during the night). He eats ~3 ounces per feeding and gets both breastmilk and formula.

And he is one lucky baby to have his daddy around (and I'm one lucky lady). For those who might not know, Eric works out of our house, so he has been able to share all the parental duties with me while working from home. I definitely know that I'm lucky - most dads have to return to work after one or two weeks.

This has allowed us to have a pretty nice routine, especially at night. I take the first night shift around 1 or 2 am, and then Eric takes the next one around 4 or 5. We're trying to "tank up" little Emmett later in the night before bedtime so that he sleeps longer at night...we'll keep you posted on that strategy taught to us by the Baby Whisperer (Yeah, there's a baby whisperer - kind of like the dog whisperer, only for babies. Picture Mary Poppins, not Cesar Milan - less grabbing of scruff and more learning your baby's cues and responding appropriately, along with establishing a routine of "eat, activity, sleep."). So far, so good.
